Information for Newly Admitted Students

Past Major Research Papers

The Globalization Studies MA program consists of course work plus a major research paper (MRP). During the winter term, students prepare a proposal for their MRP and identify a potential supervisor and second reader. Students complete the MRP in the summer term. The paper has a maximum length of 10,000 words (approximately 40 pages).

Inside Out Hamilton

In the summer of 2011, a series of large, black-and-white portraits appeared on walls in downtown Hamilton. Taken and posted by students in McMaster’s Globalization Studies program, the photos were of local residents, often marginalized members of a community marked by increasing gentrification.

IGHC Summer School

There will be two two-week graduate courses that will be offered by internationally renowned experts in the field for credit (3 credits or a half-course each) towards students' graduate programs. Each course will consist of ten 3-hour seminars, for a total of 30 contact hours over 10 days (Monday-Friday for two weeks). Students receive seminar readings in advance and are expected to come to the course well prepared. The courses will have broad rubrics and the specific theme/content will be determined by the instructors. Students from institutions other than McMaster are responsible for arranging course credits through their own university.

The Canadian Coalition for Global Health Research (CCGHR) is a not-for-profit organization promoting better and more equitable health worldwide through the production and use of knowledge.

The Global Labour Journal

The Global Labour Journal, is an open-access, fully peer-reviewed online journal launched in January 2010. It is the official journal of the International Sociological Association's Research Committee on Labour Movements (RC44). The Journal is co-hosted by the Global Labour University (GLU), and supported by the International Center for Development and Decent Work (ICDD) in Kassel, Germany, and the Center for Global Workers' Rights at Penn State University in the United States.

Global Social Policy

Global Social Policy is a fully peer-reviewed journal that advances understandings of social policy, social development, social and health governance, gender and poverty, social welfare, education, employment, and food, and the advantages and disadvantages of globalisation, from transnational and global perspectives.

Globalization and Autonomy Online Compendium

Globalization and Autonomy series

The Globalization and Autonomy Series is the result of a major international research initiative sponsored by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada. This international and interdisciplinary research project investigates the relationship between globalization and the processes of securing and building autonomy.

McMaster Centre for Climate Change

The MCCC is a multidisciplinary research centre with the established goal of bringing together researchers to study and model climate processes, the effects of climate change, and their possible mitigation.
