Dr. Cati Coe is a Professor of Anthropology at Rutgers University and IGHC Visiting Fulbright Scholar. Dr. Coe's research focuses on transnational migration, specifically intergenerational relations, and the distribution of care labor in transnational families.

Dr. Jackie Smith is a Professor of Sociology at the University of Pittsburgh and IGHC Visiting Fulbright Scholar. Dr. Smith’s research focuses on how globalization impacts people and communities, and how social movements for the environment, health, and economic justice are advancing transformative struggles, particularly within urban contexts.

Professor Robert O’Brien will conduct climate politics research at the University of Southern California from January to May 2022.

A continuation of the collection of working papers has been released by the Institute on Globalization & the Human Condition in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and the systemic challenges it has amplified.

In the space of just a few weeks, the COVID-19 pandemic caused by the novel coronavirus has radically transformed the lives of people around the globe. The papers in this collection speak to the systemic questions the pandemic has raised.

McMaster’s Institute on Globalization and the Human Condition seeks contributions — 750 to 1000 words — to its refereed Working Paper Series. The deadline for submissions is May 4, 2020.

Miriam Toews is a winner of the Governor General’s Award for Fiction, the Libris Award for Fiction Book of the Year, the Rogers Writers’ Trust Fiction Prize, and the Writers Trust Marian Engel/ Timothy Findley Award. Her most recent novel, Women Talking, has been released to wide acclaim.

New Working Paper Series, titled States of Refuge: Keywords for Critical Refugee Studies, with contributions by authors from McMaster University, Wilfrid Laurier University, Western University, Université de Montréal, University of Waterloo, Sheridan College, York University, and Carleton University.
